Sport 1 Trackday: Drifting madness part two

TrackandTuner.com attended the Sport 1 trackday. Just like last year, this great event was filled with action. From the Rolling50, show and shine, to a meet and great with JP performance, it was all hapening at the Nurburgring track.

However in this second part we check out the skylimit drifting competition as there were some very interesting cars destroying their tires, just for fun and games. For more pictures check out part one here.

First thing first, these guys are not paid professionals but enthousiasts building and financing their own cars, racing and drifting for their own costs. It is therefore very interesting to see what they bring along. We all now the japanese cars with their reliable 2JZ engines are still a fan favorite. The sound and the turbo capabilities of these cars make them ideal drifting cars, pushing over 400HP to 600HP on boost.

However we noticed the increase of V8 power in the paddock. This is not new, as seen in the pro series the LS engines are a favorite. They have a lot of torque and power and are relatively cheap. Parts are wide available and therefore easy to replace. But putting in a LS engine into a Miata is still a very funny thing to do. However he rocked the car and set a very good qualifying session.

However we also noticed the popular BMW V8 engine. Yes the BMW with its real wheel drive and front engine, provides the best balance for drifting. But instead of a Corvette V8, some chose the BMW M3 e92 V8 to put in their cars. An awesome engine indeed, but quite a unusual choice.

However putting the engine in with an open bonnet is awesome to see and to hear. That awesome high revving V8 engine is a great choice.

But you can go even crazier, by putting in a BMW M5 e60 V10 engine inside a BMW 1 serie. Yes a V10 fitted into a 1 series BMW fitted with a manual gearbox is our ultimate drifting machine. Thanks to the owner we had the possibility to drive shotgun in this awesome car. Eeting up its tires in a cloud of smoke.

Check out this awesome video made by www.youtube.com/Tomedelic1 for the awesome drifts and sound.
