Acceleration14: Race one at the Nurburgring

You have already seen our First report of day one at Acceleration14 here, however these were practice days. Time for race 1 of the Dutch Supercar Challenge SGT, GTB and GT divisions. With qualifying ending in a first place for the Dodge Viper GT3, which was strong all day, and both the Volvo V8’s behind it is clear that pure power is doing well at the Nurburgring. MartinoRosso’s 458 GT2 was in fourth place but happy with their race pace. After winning the Zandvoort Paasraces they had the most victory penalty seconds in the pit meaning they would lose an extra 35 seconds during the drivers change.

The cars had to be placed at the oldtimerGP starting position after which they had one lap behind the Nissan GTR safety car after they are set loose during a rolling start.

We started in de first corner and walked all the way towards the last chicane.

Always strong in the beginning is MartinoRosso with their great start they immediately passed the blue Volvo V8 of Henry Zumbrink, staying right behind the other Volvo V8 driven by Kelvin Snoeks. However the Dodge Viper GT3 started to expand the lead, feeling really comfortable at the Nurburgring. After the drivers change the field was stretched, with the Dodge Viper GT3 well in the lead. However Kelvin Snoeks was a second a lap faster and was closing in rapidly. In the end the Viper only had 0.7 of a second left but took victory in front of the Volvo V8 and MartinoRosso in their 458 GT2, a job well done after so many penalty seconds.

In the GT division the Lamborghini GT3 won the race from pole position in front of the Ferrari 458 GT3 from Curbstone which had a very exiting race after a spin in the Dunlop corner.
