Thanks to Hankook, the tire supplier of the 2012 DTM championship, TrackandTuner was invited to take an inside look in the DTM. The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters in Zandvoort is always a great spectacle due to the weather conditions and because the riders love the challenging circuit.
TrackandTuner was invited in the Hankook Hospitality, a building inside the track area where we were served great food, drinks and were introduced to the riders like the winner of the 2012 Zandvoort race Edoardo Mortara.
Some think the 80-90ties were the Golden years of DTM, but with the big three back in action the rivalry is extreme. New boy BMW is trying hard with their riders like Bruno Sprengler and Martin Tomczyk but the lack of experience and the track conditions in Zandvoort made their race very difficult.
The race started with some light showers but all the riders went out on slicks, this meant some slippery moments in the beginning. Just when it started to dry up and Mike Rockenfeller had a small gap it started to rain again. Mortara used these conditions to close up the gap and overtakes Rockenfeller in the famous Tarzan corner.
With BMW, Mercedes and Audi back in the DTM, the rivalry is back and so is the action, as seen in the last pictures and by all the damage, just like the Golden Years.
Special thanks to Hankook for their great Hospitality and perfectly organized weekend.
